Alzheimer´s Disease Model - Neurotoxicity Assay induced by beta amyloid

Intoxication of hipoccampal neurons with beta-amyloid (1-40) is a useful Alzheimer disease (AD) in vitro model. This model allows evaluate the capacity of different agents to inhibit the neuronal damage in AD based on the accumulation of neurotoxic fibrillar amyloid beta peptide. This in vitro model offers the advantage of a rapid screening of the neuroprotective potential of a molecule.


Assay Details


Human/Rat/Mouse primary neurons are treated with compounds to be tested in parallel with Aβ1-40 peptide to evaluate their protective effects against Aβ induced toxicity. After 24h treatment, different studies are performed to analyze the different stages of the cell death process and the possible recovery of damaged neurons.
