Alzheimer´s Disease Model - Amyloid-beta aggregates Formation in vitro

Intoxication of neurons with beta-amyloid (1-42) oligomers is a useful Alzheimer disease (AD) in vitro model. This model allows evaluate the capacity of different agents to inhibit the formation of neurotoxic amyloid beta 1-42 oligomers. This in vitro model offers the advantage of a rapid screening of the neuroprotective potential of a molecule.

Assay Details

Rat primary neurons, Human Microglia or SH-SY5Y cells are treated with compounds to be tested in parallel with Aβ1-42 peptide to evaluate the capacity of the compounds to inhibit the Aβ1-42 oligomerization. After 24h treatment, Aβ1-42 oligomerization process is analysed measuring the number of thiazine staining oligomers related to the cell number.
