Immortalized Human Meningeal Cells

Immortalized Human Meningeal Cells (IM-HMnC) provided by Innoprot have been developed by immortalizing primary human healthy meningeal cells with SV40 Large T antigen.

Immortalized cells were controlled passaging side by side with the primary cells. Primary cells go into senescence after the 4th passage while the SV40‐tranduced cells go beyond 30 passages.

Each vial of Immortalized Human Meningeal Cells contains more than 1 million viable cells. Innoprot also offers optimized medium and reagents for the growth of IM-MnC which are quality tested together and guaranteed to give maximum performance as a global solution for in vitro IM-HMnC culture.

Meningeal cells surround the brain and actively participate in the development of the central nervous system. They play an important role in stabilizing the extracellular matrix of the pial surface; organizing the radial glial scaffold, and also laminating the cerebellar cortex. Selective pharmacological destruction of the meningeal cells during a critical ontogenetic period leads to specific malformation of both; the cerebellar cortex and dentate gyrus. Grafts of meningeal cells, which came from meninges overlying the cerebral cortex, in adult rat spinal cord lesions promotes axonal regrowth. Additionally, in vitro studies show that human meningeal cells chemotactically orient the migration of immature neurons but not glial cells. Immortalized Human Meningeal Cells are useful tools to understand the highly integrated balance between proliferation, differentiation, and cell death. Immortalized Human Meningeal Cells also allow to stablish in vitro models for HIgh Throughput and High Content Screening.
