Iris is a pigmented disk which controls the size of the pupil and the amount of light reaching the retina. It consists of the anterior limiting layer, the stroma, the dilator muscle layer, and the posterior pigmented epithelium. The main function of Human Iris Fibroblasts is to maintain the structural integrity of the connective tissue; but also to aid in tissue repair and remodeling. Under disease conditions, such as with rubeosis iridis, neovascularization can occur on the anterior surface of the iris and result in fibrosis. Patients with diabetes and diabetic retinopathy are at a higher risk of developing rubeosis iridis. Human Iris Fibroblasts will surely continue to provide an in vitro model in the pathophysiological studies of eye vascular diseases.

Human Iris Fibroblasts
Human Iris Fibroblasts (HIrF) provided by Innoprot are isolated from human healthy Iris tissue. HIrF are cryopreserved at passage one and delivered frozen. Each vial of Human Iris Fibroblast contains more than 500.000 viable cells. They are guaranteed to further expand for 15 population doublings following the instructions provided in the technical sheet.
Innoprot also offers optimized medium and reagents for the growth of Human Iris Fibroblasts which are quality tested together and guaranteed to give maximum performance as a global solution for in vitro HIrF culture.
