Human Kupffer Cells

Human Kupffer Cells (HKC) provided by Innoprot are isolated from human healthy liver tissue. HKC are cryopreserved just after isolation and delivered frozen. Each vial of Human Kupffer contains more than 1 million viable cells. They are guaranteed to further culture in the conditions provided in the technical sheet however, HKC are not recommended for expanding or long-term cultures since the cells do not proliferate in regular culture.

Innoprot also offers optimized medium and reagents for the maintenance of Human Kupffer Cells which are quality tested together and guaranteed to give maximum performance as a global solution for in vitro HKC culture.

Human Kupffer Cells (HKC) are hepatic macrophages which derive from circulating bone marrow-derived monocytes. The main function of macrophages is to remove cellular debris and destroy invading pathogens. They reside within the lumen of liver sinusoids. HKC protect the liver by responding to pathogens and metastatic cells, while tolerating harmless self and foreign antigens, which enter via blood flow through the portal vein and hepatic artery. Human Kupffer Cells play an important role in diseases such as fibrosis, liver inflammation, fatty liver disease, and liver transplantation. HKC are an excellent model for studying macrophage functions under normal physiological and pathological conditions.
