Fibroblasts are mesenchymal cells which came from the embryonic mesoderm. In general, fibroblasts secrete a non-rigid extracellular matrix which is rich in type I and/or type III collagen. There is evidence showing that fibroblasts in various organs are intrinsically different. They are important tools for a wide range of cellular and molecular studies, as they are one of the easiest types of cells to grow in culture. Their durability also makes them amenable to a variety of manipulations ranging from studies employing gene transfection to microinjection. Human Ocular Choroid Fibroblasts respond to elevated PKC and also cyclic AMP levels to up-regulate VEGF expression. It suggests a role in angiogenesis and macular degeneration.

Human Ocular Choroid Fibroblasts
Human Ocular Choroid Fibroblasts (HOCF) provided by Innoprot are isolated from human healthy conjunctiva. HOCF are cryopreserved at passage one and delivered frozen. Each vial of Human Ocular Choroid Fibroblasts contains more than 500.000 viable cells. They are guaranteed to further expand for 15 population doublings following the instructions provided in the technical sheet.
Innoprot also offers optimized medium and reagents for the growth of Human Ocular Choroid Fibroblasts which are quality tested together and guaranteed to give maximum performance as a global solution for in vitro HOCF culture.
