Human Gastric Smooth Muscle Cells (HGSMC) provided by Innoprot are isolated from human healthy stomach. HGSMC are cryopreserved at passage one and delivered frozen. Each vial of Human Gastric Smooth Muscle Cells contains more than 500.000 viable cells. They are guaranteed to further expand for 15 population doublings following the instructions provided in the technical sheet.

Smooth muscle is responsible for the contractility of hollow organs; such as blood vessels, the gastrointestinal tract, the bladder, and the uterus. The human stomach contains three layers of muscle, the outer longitudinal, the middle circular and the inner oblique. The visceral smooth muscle cells make up all three layers along the entire organ. Smooth muscle contraction is critical to peristalsis and activation of phospholipase through increased intracellular Ca2+ meadiates the contraction. It occurs trough a G protein activation, following an activation of PKCepsilon-dependent mechanisms. Human Gastric Smooth Muscle Cells are usefull tools for understanding physiological and pathophysiological relevance in stomach function and disease.
